Operation:

Pressure washers are useful for cleaning a variety of exterior surfaces that have caked-on dirt, grease, plant residue, graffiti, mold, algae or other material across a large surface area. Just like the nozzle on your garden hose, pressure washer wands employ different nozzles/tips that adjust both the angle and intensity of the spray for particular projects.

Note: Pressure washers are powerful enough to remove/alter finishes and/or damage surfaces if used improperly. They should NOT be used to clean asphalt shingles, older mortar/brickwork, gutters, or cement board siding.

You will also need a water supply, garden hose, and extension cord with enough reach for your project.

Please review the manual and nozzle selection guide.

*The main culprit behind surface damage is using the incorrect tip. It's always best to start with a wide spray tip and switch to a tip with a more direct angle as needed.

  1. Select & Connect Preferred Nozzle

  2. Attach Hose, Turn Water Supply on to High/Full. Squeeze the trigger to prime the pump and purge air from the system.

  3. Plug into the power source.
*The GCFI may need to be reset when first plugged in. A 20 amp circuit is ideal. Most household circuits have a 15 amp breaker, which is enough to power the washer, but if there is ANYTHING else plugged into the same circuit it may trip the breaker. Plan accordingly.

  4. Ensure the unit is upright and on a stable surface.

  5. Turn On and let the pressure build for a minute to warm up.

  6. Pull Trigger and Spray Away.
*For best results, test in an inconspicuous place.
! Spray at least 2-3 feet from your target surface, slowly moving closer until you achieve the desired cleaning effect.  Your spray tip should never be closer than 8" or you may damage your surface - even concrete!

Use long, continuous, sweeping motions that just slightly overlap each other. The water stream should constantly be moving.
    * The unit should not run for more than 5 minutes while the trigger is off or you could damage the pump. If you are taking a break, moving that patio furniture, or re-positioning the unit, please turn the compressor dial off, and engage the safety lock on the gun until you're ready to resume.

  7.  When finished, Turn Off and Unplug from Power Source.

  8. Turn off Water Source and Pull Trigger to Release Water Pressure. Disconnect Hose.

  9. Loosen/Disconnect high-pressure hose connection on the trigger gun handle to de-pressurize unit.

  10.  Remove Nozzle, Empty & Rinse Detergent Tanks (if applicable), and return all components to the Tool Library.

Safety:

Pressure washers can cause serious injuries if misused. It's important to remember that pressure washers, while fun, are not toys. For comparison, a standard garden hose has a psi of about 60, fire hoses start around 100 psi, and a medium-duty pressure washer can have a maximum pressure of 2,800 psi. For safety, follow these guidelines:

  • Don’t point the pressure washer at people (not even that pesky neighbor), pets, or put your hand in front of the nozzle. The pressurized water stream could actually penetrate your skin and cause serious cuts. We recommend wrangling kids and fur babies at a safe distance.

  • Engage the safety lock when you’re not actively washing and when changing nozzle tips.

  • Wear safety glasses and closed-toed footwear!

  • Don’t use pressure washers while working from ladders. The powerful recoil on the spray wand can throw you off balance and off the ladder...

  • Make sure your outlet and your power cord/hose are safely outside of your spray zone to prevent electrocution and trip hazards. Maintain a minimum 6-ft. distance when spraying water around power lines, electrical masts or outlets.

  • Before uncoupling hoses, stop the machine, turn the water faucet off and squeeze the spray wand trigger to release all water pressure in the system.
