Bow Saw - 21" (1000317) In Stock Now

About: A modern bow saw is a metal-framed crosscut saw in the shape of a bow. It has a relatively long, coarse, wide blade with numerous transverse teeth designed to remove material both when pushing and pulling. Bow saws are most commonly used outside the home, for trimming trees and sawing logs  (generally up to six inches in diameter), as well as various rough cuts. It is also commonly known as a Swede Saw or Finn Saw.

Replacement blades are generally available for purchase at/below cost at the front desk as needed.

Operation:

  • Try to keep your strokes long (use the full length of the blade) and even.

  • It is natural to push the saw through the wood and want to lift it a bit as you drag it back. Focus on keeping the blade engaged both ways, instead of cutting only on the forward motion.

  • Let the blade cut with the weight of the saw. It doesn't need downward pressure. (Just enough to keep it from bouncing as you begin.) To help maintain the saw blade and conserve your energy, do not bear down!
